The Seattle Mariners won 85 games during the regular season thanks in large part to an elite pitching staff. However, that staff was let down by the team's lackluster offense.
While they finished in second place in the American League West, they still missed the postseason for the second consecutive year. In order to get back to the playoffs, they are going to need some help offensively.
Fortunately, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller might have a solution. Seattle was one of the teams interested in Luis Robert Jr. at the trade deadline, and they are expected to be in on him again this offseason.
"Despite the injuries, Robert has a .474 slugging percentage since the start of 2020. That's virtually identical to those of Anthony Santander (.476) and Tyler O'Neill (.472), whose values in free agency will be determined soon enough," Miller wrote.
"As far as interested parties go, the Phillies and Mariners were the obvious candidates heading into the July 30 trade deadline and still look the most likely to target Robert."
Robert slashed .224/.278/.379 this season with 14 home runs, 35 RBI and 23 stolen bases. Injuries were certainly a factor in his struggles, but he once again was unable to live up to the hype.
However, there is still some value there and perhaps a change of scenery could benefit him. Getting the chance to play for a contender would certainly help him.
Seattle could then pick up their much-needed bat and potentially take a stab at challenging the Houston Astros for the top spot in the AL West. He also isn't going to be terribly expensive due to his injuries.
This could make him an ideal target for the Mariners. It will be interesting to see if they decide to look into acquiring him this winter.
