The Seattle Mariners are in the market for infield help, and while they let Eugenio Suarez leave and haven't strongly pursued other top options, there is one name worth keeping a close eye on.
Despite most of the market off the board, there is one trade candidate, a Gold Glove from the St. Louis Cardinals, who could be a fit for Seattle.
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Mariners are, once again, linked to Cardinals' Brendan Donovan as a trade option this offseason. IT's not an unfamiliar link, but this report suggests a resolution could come soon for Seattle.
Mariners linked to Brendan Donovan amid looming trade timeline
"Perhaps most interesting position player available in the market: The Cardinals' Brendan Donovan," Olney writes. "Some rival execs fully expect he'll be moved in the next couple of weeks. The Mariners have had interest: he'd fit the Red Sox too..."
Donovan is tied to the Mariners and the Boston Red Sox, but with the Red Sox likely to stick with their current infield options at second base, the Mariners might be the best landing spot available.
A team like the San Francisco Giants had interest, but their signing of Luis Arraez took them out of the trade market for Donovan.

With the Cardinals expected to trade Donovan in the coming weeks, according to rival executives around the league, and the Mariners seemingly the only possible landing spot, a deal sending Donovan to the Mariners isn't impossible.
A trade for Seattle won't be cheap, but the Gold Glove, contact-first All-Star would be a nice addition for the Mariners infield for the next few seasons.
This report from Olney suggests that things could progress soon, and if they do, the Mariners might be in the thick of the market for the best available second baseman on the market.
