Mariners' Bryan Woo injury update depends on Seattle season hanging in the balance

The Seattle Mariners want to get Bryan Woo another chance to pitch this season.

The right-handed star has been rehabbing diligently from a pectoral injury but was left off the ALDS roster.

The Mariners play the decisive ALDS Game 5 on Friday night. If they beat the Detroit Tigers and Tarik Skubal, Woo could get another chance to take the mound this season. If they don't, Woo and the rest of the Mariners go home.

Woo did some flat ground work on Thursday in Seattle on the Mariners' off day.

He has thrown at least one reported bullpen session in this comeback, as well.

It seems unlikely he could be a fully stretched out starting pitcher upon a return, but if he was on the ALCS roster, he'd likely contribute in some capacity.

Woo was an All Star as part of a brilliant season.

The 25-year old right-hander had a 2.94 ERA in the regular season with a 15-7 record.

He was one of the most consistent starters in the sport, almost always going six innings and limiting damage.

In 186.2 innings on the season, Woo struck out 198 and walked just 36.

The Mariners' starting pitching depth is one of their biggest strengths, but being without Woo hasn't helped their cause in the ALDS.

They'd love to advance and give him a chance to return to his spot in their rotation, or at least on their staff in some form.
