March Madness heroes: Where is Duke's Christian Laettner now?

1 hour ago 3

More than three decades after his iconic NCAA Championship run with the Duke Blue Devils, Christian Laettner remains closely tied to the game -- even as his role has evolved far beyond the court.

Laettner, 56, is best known for delivering one of the most famous shots in NCAA Tournament history in 1992, capping a perfect performance against Kentucky and securing his place in college basketball highlights forever. He went on to a solid 13-year NBA career and was a member of the legendary Team USA men's basketball Dream Team, winning gold in the 1992 Barcelona games.

Today, Laettner’s focus is largely on business and basketball development. He has spent years involved in real estate ventures, particularly in North Carolina and Florida, building a portfolio that reflects a steady post-playing career transition.

At the same time, Laettner has remained connected to basketball through coaching and mentorship. He has worked at various levels, including high school and developmental programs, helping shape younger players while occasionally appearing at Duke events and alumni gatherings. In fact, he's reportedly one of Duke's largest donors for the basketball program.

Laettner also stays in the public eye through speaking engagements and media appearances, often reflecting on his college career and the evolution of the sport. His name continues to surface every March as highlights of his tournament heroics resurface across CBS broadcasts and social media.

While his playing days are long behind him, Laettner’s impact on college basketball endures in the NIL era.
