Maple Leafs' blockbuster Auston Matthews trade proposal also involves Joseph Wall

This is just the beginning of the Auston Matthews trade rumors.

As a nightmare season for the Toronto Maple Leafs winds down, it'll be popular for people to suggest new teams for Matthews to end up on.

He's got two years left on his contract after this one, which is enough to make him valuable in a trade but also short enough for there to be pressure on the Leafs to figure this out sooner rather than later.

One person who is thinking about a Matthews trade is NHL insider Anthony Di Marco.

He suggested a trade proposal also involving the Philadelphia Flyers, writing out the details in a recent post on X.

In the hypothetical trade, the Leafs would send Matthews (with 25% salary retention) and goaltender Joseph Woll to the Flyers.

Di Marco suggests that in return, Toronto would receive either Owen Tippett or Trevor Zegras, along with Jett Luchanko, Oliver Bonk, Toronto's own 1st back for 2027, and a third-round 2028 pick if Matthews signs a long-term extension with Philly.

It'd be fascinating to see the Maple Leafs trade not only Matthews but also the goalie Woll. On paper, Toronto has too many goalies going forward, so it wouldn't be a shock to see Woll traded, but it'd be a layered situation if they decide to get all the business done in one trade.

Would Matthews want to go to Philadelphia? That will obviously be a key component, and we'll just have to wait and see on that, if anything like this were to ever actually come to fruition.
