Maple Leafs' Anthony Stolarz gets scary injury update, then latest news

1 hour ago 3

The Toronto Maple Leafs had to make a last-minute change in goal on Saturday night.

Joseph Woll got the start despite Anthony Stolarz being lined up to tend the net. It's because Stolarz got injured.

And the manner of the injury is definitely a little scary.

In essence, Stolarz took a puck to the neck.

This is what the Maple Leafs' PR team posted on X:

"Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz left warmups tonight in Ottawa after taking a puck to the throat and has been taken to hospital for precautionary imaging. An update will be provided when available."

Thankfully, the news was better after the game.

The Maple Leafs shared this update:

"Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz was released from hospital following precautionary imaging and will return to Toronto with the team."

It ends up sounding more like a scare and less like a major issue.

Still, it's a reminder that things can change in an instant, especially for goalies with so much happening at high speeds around them.

Toronto lost the game 5-2 to Ottawa, but in a lost season, that almost feels like it doesn't matter all that much at the moment.

The important thing is it sounds like Stolarz is OK.
