The San Antonio Spurs are having their most successful season since the Tim Duncan days. Victor Wembanyama is the primary reason behind this success because he ushered in a new era for the organization. However, only one player has stuck with the team during their struggles since 2019.
That player is Keldon Johnson, who has developed well within the organization's system. While he was a starter for the most part during that time, he has moved over to the sixth man role this season, and everyone within the Spurs organization appreciates his contributions.
The Spurs appreciate what Keldon Johnson brings to the franchise
Over the years, the Spurs have gone from being one of the most successful teams to being irrelevant. After the Duncan era, they were supposed to be Kawhi Leonard's team, but that all crumbled. This led them to toil away in mediocrity, but they managed to luck out with the first overall pick in 2023.
Wembanyama was their selection, and he has transformed the organization. Now, they are the second-best team in the Western Conference, serving as the primary rival to the Oklahoma City Thunder. They now also have promising young players like Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper.

Because of Wembanyama, they also got to trade for De'Aaron Fox. Amid all these players on the Spurs' roster, they can still agree that Keldon Johnson is the player who drives them the most. He is the team's heart and soul, as he is a leader, and he gives it his all every night.
"We are a team with an MVP candidate, multiple All-Stars, multiple All-Defensive NBA candidates, we have nine guys averaging double figures, and every single one of our players has said that he (Johnson) is the heart and soul of our team," Head coach Mitch Johnson said after their Saturday game.
With this kind of praise coming from the coaching staff and the players, Keldon should be happy with his situation. He will keep fighting for his team moving forward, but it must feel nice to be appreciated by every single person within the organization.
