Manga Preview: RAVEN DARK HERO, Volume 1

18 hours ago 1

The Raven Dark Hero, written by newcomer Tonke and illustrated by industry veteran Akira Mitsuya, aims to shake the very foundations of the superhero genre. Mitsuya is well known for his work on Sacred Chevalier and Onna Kishi, Keiri ni Naru, and this latest collaboration takes a bold step away from traditional spandex-clad heroes and black-and-white morality.

Instead, Raven Dark Hero throws readers into a dark, gritty world where power corrupts and morality is never black and white. Tonke crafts a setting unlike any readers have seen before, blurring the line between “good” and “evil” at every turn.

At the center of this world is Suou Kouki, a young man who has dreamed of becoming a hero since birth. But when he discovers a hidden power during a moment of despair, that dream quickly warps into a curse. As Suou confronts the brutal reality of the world around him, he’s forced to face the possibility that he may become the very thing he once swore to fight.

Amazon’s official synopsis sums up the story:

In a world where superpowers are a gift to protect the weak and fight evil, Suou Kouki has always dreamed of becoming a hero. But when his moment of despair awakens a hidden power, his dream quickly turns into a nightmare. Now, armed with a dangerous ability, Suou finds himself on a path he never expected—one where the line between hero and villain is perilously thin. The Raven Dark Hero is a gripping manga that explores the dark side of power, ambition, and morality, as Suou’s journey forces him to confront the consequences of becoming the very thing he once sought to destroy.
