Mandy Moore Shares Why She Turns to Mother-in-Law Kathy Goldsmith for Venting
Mandy Moore certainly has a mother-in-law to remember.
Indeed, the Princess Diaries alum revealed that she turns to her husband Taylor Goldsmith’s mom Kathy Goldsmith when life is crazy with her three kids Gus, 5, Ozzie, 3, and Lou, 20 months.
“I love my mother-in-law, and we're very close,” Mandy told E! News’ Erin Lim Rhodes in an exclusive interview. “She’s very helpful with the kids and is just a huge part of our support system. So, she's the first person I would vent to.”
The A Walk to Remember actress has relied on Kathy amid the madness of life over the past few years, especially after she and Taylor lost their home during the historic Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025.
“It’s been a hell of a year and my Mother-in-law, Kathy, has risen to the occasion in every way,” Mandy wrote on Instagram in July. “Selfishly, I’m not sure what I would have done without her in the hours, days, weeks, and months since the fire. She suffered her own immense loss and has been by our side since the very beginning, without skipping a beat.”
“If there’s any silver lining in this whole thing, she’s definitely ours,” the 42-year-old continued. “We couldn’t be luckier that she’s ours and we’re never letting her go.”
While Kathy has helped her through her journey of motherhood, Mandy noted the craziness of parenthood is actually part of what drew her to her new movie The Breadwinner with Nate Bargatze.
In the film—hitting theaters May 29—Mandy’s character Katie finds massive success after appearing on Shark Tank, leaving Nate’s character (also named Nate) in charge of the kids.
“It's really fun to be a mom of three now and have this opportunity to be a part of Nate's first feature film,” Mandy continued in her interview with E!. “This is really a celebration of moms who oftentimes could be the unsung heroes of the family.”

“But this is also turning that story on its head,” she explained, “and empowering dads who sort of are stepping into this new realm of responsibility and realizing how much work mom really does and how difficult it is.”
And in addition to the celebration of parenthood, Mandy is simply thrilled that the movie is “sweet.”
“There's a little something for everybody,” she shared. “It feels like the classic family movies that we grew up watching.”

"Your ability to get Gus to eat something he'd flat out refused with me or elicit Ozzie's immediate laughter, your music curation for our boys- which is TOP NOTCH… I could go on and on."

"We had an early Birthday bash with friends and family for Goosey," Mandy wrote on Instagram in February 2023. "2 years with the sweetest, goofiest guy has absolutely flown by. We're the luckiest folks around to be in your orbit, Gus Goldsmith."
