Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has opened up about Kobbie Mainoo's brother's controversial t-shirt. He said that whether the midfielder plays or not does not depend on his family's actions.

Kobbie Mainoo's future has been under speculation, with him starting just one game this season. That start came in the EFL Cup Second Round in August as they were beaten by League Two side Grimsby Town on penalties. He's played over 30 minutes just thrice this season.

Mainoo came on in the 61st minute against Manchester United's thrilling 4-4 draw against Bournemouth at Old Trafford in the Premier League on December 15. However, his brother, Jordan Mainoo-Hames, was seen in the stands wearing a "Free Kobbie" t-shirt, and he also uploaded the picture online.

Sharing his thoughts on it, Ruben Amorim said in his press conference on Friday:

"Not Kobbie who wear the T-shirt. He will play if we feel he is the right guy. I am not going to do something to Kobbie because of something his family did."

Mainoo has made 12 appearances across competitions for Manchester United this season, registering one assist.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane slams Kobbie Mainoo's brother for his t-shirt stunt

Roy Keane shared his thoughts on Kobbie Mainoo's situation at Manchester United on the latest episode of the Stick To Football podcast. He said that the 20-year-old needs to show more patience and work hard to try to get back into the squad. He said:

"Are you telling me that he can't sit there for another six months? He might think the manager's on his way out in the summer. He's 20 years of age, what's wrong with sitting and learning your trade? And even if he's not getting a chance, we've all had to do it. "Sometimes a manager is on your case and what you have to do is prove them wrong. Jamie made a point that he never felt like a regular at Liverpool, I never felt like that at United. Every day is your chance to prove yourself to the manager and when the manager is picking his team, [he goes] 'he has to play'. He's got to get that in his mindset," he added.

Keane also slammed Mainoo's brother, saying:

"And when he's got his idiot of a brother doing all that... we shouldn't even be giving that kind of stuff the time of day. Sometimes you're just surrounded by idiots, especially the families."

Mainoo came through Manchester United's academy and has recorded seven goals and three assists in 84 senior games for them.
