The Europa League will decide the fate of Manchester United's current season. The Red Devils have endured a tough campaign in the Premier League. Therefore, they are gunning for European glory.
Manchester United have reached the semifinals of the Europa League and will face Athletic Club. The two clubs will play the first leg on Thursday at San Mames in Bilbao.
Europa League is the only opportunity for Ruben Amorim to win a trophy this season following a dismal league campaign. The Red Devils are currently languishing in 14th position in the Premier League standings.
They are closer to the relegation zone this season than the top four spots, which sums up their entire season. If United finish in 14th position, it will be their worst top-flight finish since 1974 when they were relegated.
Therefore, Amorim and his men are clutching straws and hoping to win the Europa League crown to also qualify for the Champions League next season.
If they manage to win the continental competition, it will also boost their bargaining power in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Recently, United youngster Kobbie Mainoo spoke about potential success in the Europa League. However, the midfielder didn't mince his words while speaking about their underwhelming Premier League campaign.
What did Kobbie Mainoo say about United's potential Europa League success?
Contrary to their league campaign, Manchester United have been a different team in the continental competition this season. They are the only unbeaten team in this season's Europa League (W7, D5).
They produced a dramatic finish against Olympique Lyon in the second leg of the quarter-final round. The Red Devils scored twice in the stoppage time of extra-time to progress to the semi-final of the tournament.
"The Europa League is a big opportunity [to rescue the season] but I wouldn't say it would make the season a success," Mainoo told Sky Sports.
"It'll definitely give hope for us to take something positive into next season. The season's not gone how we would have liked it to, but we can't just be down and all fall apart, because then where do we end up? We have to stay together and keep a spirit, because there are still big games to be played," the youngster continued.
While the club needs wholesale changes to get back on the right track, winning any silverware will surely put them in good stead. It will also solidify Amorim's position at Old Trafford.
