Man City have visions of a Remontada dancing in their heads as they welcome Real Madrid to the Etihad for the second leg of their Champions League Round-of-16 matchup on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola's side submitted a dud in the first leg last week in Madrid, falling on their faces in a 3-0 defeat that has left them with a huge aggregate gap to close back home.

To make matters worse, Real Madrid are expected to have Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham back available after an injury absence, meaning they are set to face a stronger La Liga side than the one that beat them one week prior.

Erling Haaland's goal drought continues, with just two open play goals across all competitions in 2026, a paltry total compared to the striker's regular world-class level.

The Sporting News is following the Man City vs. Real Madrid match live, providing score updates, commentary, and analysis.

Pep Guardiola cancelled City training the day before the match due to conflicts with their travel. He said this is not unusual, and he has done so before matches earlier this season, including against Borussia Dortmund and Fulham, both of which they won.

Man City vs. Real Madrid lineups, team news

The only long-term injury absence for Man City right now is the continued recovery of Josko Gvardiol who is out with an ankle injury for much of the season, if not the entire remainder of the campaign.

Savinho was left out of the weekend's squad due to a knock, while John Stones was simply omitted as a tactical decision. Both could potentially factor in here, although neither is likely to start.

Nico O'Reilly has seemingly supplanted Phil Foden at the No. 10 spot, while Marc Guehi has locked down the position in central defence alongside Ruben Dias.

Man City projected starting lineup (4-1-4-1): Donnarumma (GK) — Nunes, Dias, Guehi, Ait Nouri — Rodri — Semenyo, Silva, O'Reilly, Cherki — Haaland.

Real Madrid are expected to have Kylian Mbappe back in some capacity this weekend, either from the beginning or off the bench. His role will likely not be decided until matchday.

If he cannot go, Alvaro Arbeloa will have to make a decision up top, with either Gonzalo Garcia or Brahim Diaz likely to take Mbappe's spot alongside Vinicius Jr.

Madrid may also get Jude Bellingham back from injury as well, while Alvaro Carreras should reclaim his place after a short absence.

Real Madrid projected starting lineup (4-4-2): Courtois (GK) — Alexander-Arnold, Rudiger, Huijsen, Carreras — Valverde, Tchouameni, Camavinga, Guler — G. Garcia, Vinicius Jr.
