Mammoth cut ties with 34-year old feel-good story

Andrew Agozzino was one of the feel-good stories to start this NHL season.

The Utah Mammoth kept the 34-year old forward on their opening night roster. It was the first time in Agozzino's 15-year professional career that he was with an NHL team on opening night.

That has been short-lived, though.

On Wednesday, the Mammoth waived Agozzino.

If he clears waivers, he'll go to AHL Tucson.

Agozzino appeared in the Mammoth's first two games of the season, averaging just 6:08 of ice time. He has since been a healthy scratch in five consecutive games before being waived.

Overall, Agozzino has played 53 games in the NHL. That includes stops with the Colorado Avalanche, Anaheim Ducks, Pittsburgh Penguins, San Jose Sharks and Ottawa Senators.

In those 53 games, Agozzino has three goals and nine assists.

Last season in 55 AHL games, Agozzino had 20 goals and 23 assists for Tucson.

He has 623 points in 791 career AHL games, so he's got that level figured out.

Agozzino entered the pro ranks as an undrafted player, but he's made a long career for himself, even if most of it has been spent in the minor leagues.

Given his age, he may not make it back to the NHL, but this guy is a grinder who isn't done yet.
