NY Post readers discuss City Hall excluding Little Italy and other ethnic areas from its "immigrant enclave" map.
Helayne Seidman
The Issue: City Hall excluding Little Italy and other ethnic areas from its “immigrant enclave” map.
Italians, Greeks, Irish, Jews, Germans, French and more: For hundreds of years, your grandparents worked hard and earnestly across our city, forever branding the New York landscape with the fruits of their labor (“Zo on defense as map ‘draws’ ire,” July 11).
It boggles the mind to understand how the unfit socialist elected as mayor of this great city now attempts to erase the history by ignoring Little Italy, the Greek population of Astoria and more on his “immigrant enclave” map.
Instead, he (not surprisingly) highlighted areas like Little Palestine and Little Yemen.
But don’t just blame Mayor Mamdani.
Blame others like state Sen. Mike Gianaris and Gov. Hochul, who betrayed their constituents and America by endorsing him.

When Mamdani’s administration left out the immigrant enclaves of both the Irish and Italians, it only furthered his reputation as a way-over-his-head moron.
As an Irish- and Italian-American, I’m proud of all my roots.
My family served the NYPD for a total of over 100 years combined. We were proud to assimilate, fall in love with this country, work hard to achieve the American dream and realize a loser politician when we see one.

From now on, the area around Gracie Mansion should be known as “Little Imbeciles.”

As a proud Italian-American, I find it disingenuous that the little squirt Mamdani has dissed the contributions of Italians.
Like many families, mine came at the start of the 20th century.
As Charles Gasparino acknowledges, there were no safety nets in those days (“Lefty gives the ‘boot’ to Italian culture,” July 11).
I remember one of my grandfather’s favorite sayings: If you don’t work, you don’t eat.
And work they did, building this great country with other hardworking immigrants.
My grandfather and our family made this country — our country.

While I am the last person to defend Mamdani on anything, your readers should not be pointing their collective finger at him for leaving certain ethnic neighborhoods off the city map.
New York City mayors have historically done nothing to preserve iconic enclaves.
By recognizing physical boundaries for Little Italy, Chinatown, Woodlawn and other areas, and fostering businesses only by those of that ethnic background, the city could have preserved the very fabric of these neighborhoods.
Diversity is a wonderful thing, but I no longer visit Little Italy or attend the San Gennaro Feast because it’s difficult to find a zeppole like the ones my mother used to make.
But a corn dog or a taco, not so hard.

Mamdani literally wiped Italians and Jews off the map of NYC ethnic neighborhoods.
Who’s guilty of “genocide” now?
Jack Kaufman

The Italians, Irish, Jews and so many more immigrants from different countries worldwide arrived in New York and made it the great city it is today.
Mamdani’s distortion of history is a hateful insult to each one of them.
He will be long gone and forgotten but what these proud Americans accomplished through their hopes and dreams of freedom and equality, hard work and love for America, will live on forever.
Betty Schwartz
Livingston, NJ
Last I checked, there were 2 million Catholics and 1.5 million Jews in New York City.
How about you get off your backsides (a real Irishman would use a different term) and vote for the right guy next time?
You collectively allowed Mamdani to be elected — a self-inflicted wound you will sadly have to bear for a while.
Michael McGinn
Paoli, Pa.
Mamdani has no defense.
He and his minions knew what they were doing was insulting and morally wrong.
What other reports and documents like this incomplete map does his administration distribute?
