Luka Doncic vs. Anthony Edwards is no longer a debate, says former NBA champion

Former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins has reflected on the Luka Doncic vs Anthony Edwards debate. The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a 116-113 defeat in Game 4 of their series against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Lakers are now 1-3 down in the series.

Doncic scored 38 points during the game. He also managed one rebound and two assists. Edwards, meanwhile, scored 43 points, had six assists and nine rebounds. 

Perkins has now claimed that Edwards' display in the fourth quarter completely outshone Doncic's. He also reckons Edwards will win an NBA championship before the Slovenian does.

Speaking to Stephen A. Smith, Perkins said, "Watching the fourth quarter, the second half, fourth quarter, I saw what Nico Harrison was talking about. When it comes down to the reason why he traded Luka, he traded Luka. He traded Luka because he felt the Dallas Mavericks were not going to be winning a championship with Luka. We all know this. I didn't feel that way watching the game, looking at Anthony Edwards."

He added, "I am saying to myself, Anthony Edwards is going to win a championship before Luka Doncic. Anthony Edwards is built different. Anthony Edwards is a better all-around Basketball player than Luka Doncic."

He continued, "Luka is young. He should have been able to play those 24 minutes straight. Anthony Edwards did, and Anthony Edwards thrived in those minutes. So, when I look at what he's done and what he's doing, not only did he send KD [Kevin Durant] home last year, he sent Jokic home last year, he's about to send LeBron and Luka home this year because they're going to win this series."

Perkins added that Edwards and the Timberwolves could face Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors in the next round. Beating the Warriors would be significant for Edwards. Perkins furthered, "This man is just built different. It's not just about the 40-plus points, the assists, and rebounds, he defends his a** off. He wanted smoke with LeBron, he wanted smoke with Luka, that's what I like. He wanted smoke with Austin Reeves."

Perkins also believes Anthony Edwards is a top-five player in the NBA at the moment. He thinks it'd be foolish for any franchise to overlook Anthony Edwards at this point.
