Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry made his voice be known about the head coaching position at LSU again on Thursday, and the fallout is just beginning.
While holding a news conference on SNAP, Landry went on a rant about their next head coach.
“I can tell you right now, Scott Woodward (LSU’s athletic director) is not selecting the next coach,” Landry said at a press conference. “Hell, I’ll let Donald Trump select before I let him do it!
“Look, my role is about the fiscal effect of firing a coach under a terrible contract, OK? All "I care about is what the taxpayers are going to be on the hook on. I was also not happy with the fact that we were raising ticket prices while we were having a losing season, and we were paying a coach $100 million, and we were not getting the results.”
Landry’s rant may be hurting LSU’s chances of landing its next head coach. He not only came for his AD but also super agent Jimmy Sexton, who represents several coaches, including Nick Saban.
Peter Burns of the SEC Network, who is also an LSU fan, spoke out before Landry’s involvement
“I say this as a proud Louisianian & with nothing but respect to the politicians in the state.
Please say as little about the LSU coaching search as possible
Nothing positive for the entire state comes with turning this coaching search into a public spectacle for personal gain.”
The consensus seems to be that Landry needs to stick to governing and out of LSU football.
