The Cleveland Browns will wrap up a campaign marked by offensive struggles. Much of the offseason focus will center on Shedeur Sanders and if the franchise will hand him the keys as its long-term starting quarterback.
The fifth-round rookie has started for the most part of the second half of the season and emerged as a fan favorite. He put himself in pole position for the QB1 job next year. However, a mix of highs and lows in Sanders' play prevented him from locking down the role, leaving Cleveland with a major decision to make.
Browns guard Wyatt Teller was asked on Wednesday about Sanders’ future in Cleveland. He made it clear that he wants to see him remain with the team. However, Teller also acknowledged that nothing is guaranteed in the NFL.

Sanders made his first appearance in Week 11 after a concussion sidelined Dillon Gabriel against the Baltimore Ravens. The game was challenging one for him, as he finished with four completions for 47 yards, one pick and two sacks.
The former Colorado Buffaloes star got his first start in Week 12 against the Las Vegas Raiders and has remained the starter since. The rookie’s best showing came two weeks later against the Tennessee Titans, recording 393 yards for three passing touchdowns and one rushing score.
Across seven appearances, including six starts, Sanders has amassed 1,289 passing yards and 143 rushing yards, for eight total touchdowns (seven passing) and 10 interceptions.
There is a limited free-agent quarterback pool in the offseason and only Fernando Mendoza standing out as a first-round prospect. The Browns may opt to stick with Sanders as their top signal-caller next season.
Shedeur Sanders is determined to continue evolving in regular-season finale
The Cleveland Browns will face the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 18 to finish the season. Shedeur Sanders shared what he hopes to prove as the campaign ends.
"We are just staying consistent, taking what they give me," Sanders said to reporters on Wednesday. "I think that's the next part of my game, trying to evolve, because whenever it's either stagnant or some adversity comes, then being able to evolve is important to get back on track."Coming off a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Sanders has a chance to finish his rookie year with back-to-back victories.
Sunday’s finale could be telling for his future in Cleveland, as well as for the team’s quarterback plans. A solid showing could help the Browns decide whether to keep him as their starter next year. Despite a rocky rookie season, there have been promising moments, and the Week 18 game offers a final opportunity to build on his growth.
