Longest losing streaks in Mets history: Where current skid ranks among New York's worst slumps

2 hours ago 3

Good things come to those who wait, allegedly. New York Mets fans might not believe this anymore.

Despite having the MLB's second-largest payroll ahead of the 2026 season at $370 million (Dodgers: $397 million, according to Fangraphs), the Mets are currently on a 10-game skid, which ranks among one of their longest in franchise history. They are two games under the NL East's fourth-place team, the Philadelphia Phillies, and are 6.5 games back from the division leader, the Atlanta Braves.

While star Juan Soto hit the IL with a right calf strain, not many people expected the second-most expensive team in baseball to start as slowly as they have. New York began the season with a strong 11-7 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates and, since then, has only won five more games.

Here is how New York's current losing streak stands in franchise history, along with how close they are to moving up in their unfortunate history.

In the modern era of baseball, the 1961 Philadelphia Phillies hold the unfortunate record for the longest losing streak, which spanned 23 losses in a row. They finished in last place in the National League that year, when it totaled eight teams. Prior to them, the Louisville Cardinals lost 26 straight games in 1889.

According to Jeff Passan, the 2025 Cleveland Guardians became the latest of four teams to lose 10 straight games and make the playoffs. History is not on New York's side, especially among teams to do this in April.

Four teams in MLB history have lost 10 or more games in a row and made the playoffs. The last was the Guardians in 2025. Only one of those teams had a skid in April and still made the postseason: the 1951 Giants, who lost 11 consecutive..

The New York Mets have lost 10 straight.

When was the Mets' last win?

The Mets' last win came on April 7 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. New York was victorious 4-3 in a 10-inning win.

The Mets began the scoring with a run in both the first and second innings. However, Arizona equalized through a two-RBI single by Adrian Del Castillo in the top of the fifth inning. Nolan Arenado, the next batter, doubled to center to bring in the leading run.

Three innings later, the Mets finally got their break with a Jared Young sac-fly to right field to get Tyrone Taylor home. In extras, Ronny Mauricio hit a walk-off single in his first game since being called up from the minor league this season.
