Liverpool plot final Florian Wirtz offer to force Leverkusen deal

Liverpool have reached an end point in their transfer negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen over Florian Wirtz.

Germany international Wirtz has reportedly indicated his clear desire to leave the BayArena this summer following Xabi Alonso's return to Real Madrid.

As the squad exodus from Leverkusen steps up, Jeremie Frimpong has completed a move to Arne Slot's Premier League champions, as a direct replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

However, a deal for Wirtz has proven to be more complex, with Leverkusen prepared to hold Liverpool to their valuation which will total up as a transfer record for the Reds.

Liverpool remain hopeful of getting an agreement wrapped up in the coming weeks with the midfielder already hinting at his excitement over a move to Merseyside after Germany's UEFA Nations League defeat to Portugal on June 4.

However, as per reports from the Daily Mail, Liverpool are only prepared to make one final offer to Leverkusen - after seeing two bids rejected already - as Slot looks to force through a transfer.

How much will Liverpool pay for Florian Wirtz?

A potential deal for Wirtz will smash Liverpool's current transfer record which is set at the £72m [$98m] they paid Benfica for Darwin Nunez in 2022.

Liverpool are also ready to offer Wirtz a 'long-term' deal which is rumoured to be for at least five years until 2030 but the final fee is the issue.

Leverkusen's opening position set an asking price of £100m [$135m] upfront with £25m [$34m] in performance-related add-ons across his contract.

The Bundesliga giants have already rejected a £110m [$148m] offer as they hold out for £126m [$171m] and Liverpool have now packaged up their final bid.

The Reds hierarchy will stretch to £100m [$135m] up front - but with £18m [$24.5m] in add-ons - which comes in around £7m [$9.5m] short of Leverkusen's position.

The sensation is that will be Liverpool's final attempt, as despite their eagerness to add Wirtz to Slot's ranks for 2025/26, the club have built a reputation on walking away from deals if financial demands exceed what they are willing to pay.

A deal will also be delayed until the transfer window reopens on June 16 if Leverkusen relent on their demands.
