The Texas UIL softball playoffs have reached the semifinals, and the Lone Star State has its share of top-ranked contenders battling for a shot at the national title.

Three Texas teams, in fact, occupy the No. 2-4 slots in the latest edition of the MaxPreps national rankings. That includes the No. 2 Lake Creek [Montgomery] Lions, No. 3 Melissa Cardinals, and No. 4 Barbers Hill [Mt. Belvieu] Eagles.

That Barbers Hill squad is firmly in the national title conversation, but they'll need some help. But they can help themselves Thursday night by finishing off the Leander Lions.
