Lions GM Brad Holmes gives major update on Jameson Williams trade rumors

In the days leading up to the 2025 NFL draft, trade rumors began swirling around the Detroit Lions and wide receiver Jameson Williams. However, general manager Brad Holmes shot those rumors down on Thursday night.

The rumor came from Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, who said he heard from some people around the league that Williams could be traded. It isn't clear if that was just speculation or something concrete his sources heard.

Nevertheless, that sent the NFL world into a frenzy and led to no shortage of speculation about where Williams could end up.

"Receiver’s another spot to consider — with a fifth-year option decision coming on Jameson Williams, and some in NFL circles believing he could be traded," Breer wrote.

Adding fuel to the fire, Williams made a few cryptic posts to social media during the week, which led many to believe he might not be long for Detroit.

After the Lions made their first-round pick on Thursday night, which was Ohio State defensive lineman Tyleik Williams, Holmes addressed the rumors and made it quite clear there is no Williams trade coming.

"That's something that we have never entertained," Holmes said. "I don't know where that report came from, but that's not a conversation me and Dan (Campbell) ever had."

While Williams no doubt has some concerns after multiple suspensions and a run-in with police last year that ultimately didn't lead to any chargers, it was always hard to envision the Lions parting with him this offseason.

Williams finally broke out in 2024 and proved to be a huge part of the team's offense, as he finished second in receiving yards and added a much-needed explosive element to Detroit's offense. With Super Bowl aspirations, the Lions were never going to part with such a key player.
