The Detroit Lions are widely considered to have a strong offense this season. They have stars like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs and Jameson Williams ready to go for another season, as well as quarterback Jared Goff. What's not to like about this crew?
But, one NFL analyst isn't buying it. His placement for the Lions' offense is really a head-scratcher. So, it should give the team a little more motivation going into their first game of the regular season on Sunday against the Saints.
Lions' offense has some concerns heading into the season
PFF has released its official 2026 NFL offensive line rankings going into the new season, and the Lions are No. 19. They're actually lower than the Las Vegas Raiders, who had a 3-14 record last season.
So, what's the problem? Gordon McGuinness of PFF explains that it comes down to injuries. One really stands out.
"The injury to new starting center Cade Mays drops the Lions from a team that would have ranked 13th on this list to just inside the top 20," he notes in the piece. "Penei Sewell moves from right tackle to left tackle to replace Taylor Decker and is coming off a career-high 95.1 PFF grade last year. Tate Ratledge looked the part as a rookie at right guard, but Christian Mahogany struggled."
He adds, "With Blake Miller set to start as a rookie, there are several concerns with this group. If Miller can hit the ground running, then the Lions can be a top-10 unit when Mays returns, but Jared Goff could easily find himself under more pressure in 2026."
It's certainly concerning to start the season without Mays. Hopefully, Dan Campbell and company can regroup until this initial lineup.
