Twenty-five years from the day that changed New York forever, the Yankees and Mets meet Friday on what it sure to be an emotional evening in the Bronx.
MLB will mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks at every game leaguewide Friday, but Yankee Stadium will be the epicenter of the tributes. A moment of silence for the victims will be observed a part of the pregame ceremonies, and both teams will wear first responder caps like they did in the days after baseball resumed a quarter century ago
The sport shut down for six days after the 9/11 attacks, returning to play on Monday, Sept. 17, 2001. Four days later, the Mets became the first New York team to play a home game since the attacks, and it produced one of the sport's most memorable moments. Mike Piazza's go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning propelled the Mets to a 3-2 win over the Braves and immediately became an iconic entry in New York sporting lore.
Baseball will again be front and center in the sports world on a day full of tributes and commemorations. Here's when and where to watch as the Yankees host the Mets.
