The Detroit Lions came away with a win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, but the result took a back seat to a scary situation involving one of their beloved players. Sports injuries are always difficult to watch, especially when there's concern about something more serious than the usual, "He's out for the rest of the game."
Lions linebacker Jack Campbell went down with a neck injury during the fourth quarter, prompting an immediate trip to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Players, including star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, were visibly emotional on the field, and fans across the country also watched in horror.
Detroit initially provided a brief update after the game, saying Campbell was resting while receiving medical attention. On Monday, the Lions shared that Campbell was still at the hospital receiving treatment and recovering but that they didn't want to share too many details out of respect for the family's privacy.
Aidan Hutchinson puts Jack Campbell ahead of Detroit Lions' big win
One of the players who's closest to Campbell is Hutchinson. He was notably upset on the field as Campbell was taken away, and that didn't escape him after the game. Even though the Lions pulled off a win over the Vikings, Hutchinson wanted to talk about Campbell after the game, not the win.
Hutchinson did, however, say that Campbell would have wanted the team to pull off a win like they did.
When asked about the team's response to Campbell's injury, the player said, according to 97.1 The Ticket, "Jack is such a ball guy, and I know that he wouldn't have wanted anything else than to lock back into this game, finish it and get a dub."
