Sofia Richie Gives Birth, Welcomes Baby No. 2 With Elliot Grainge

For Lionel Richie, life as a grandfather is easy like Sunday morning.

A little over a week after his daughter Sofia Richie announced the arrival of her son Henry Cecil Grainge, the American Idol judge detailed how he feels about welcoming another new addition.

“The beautiful part about it is that the family keeps growing and my pride keeps popping out of my chest," Lionel told USA Today in an interview shared on March 31. “But it's wonderful. Everyone is happy, and that's the part I love the most. Just watching everyone blossom."

Joking about the name his four grandkids call him, the 76-year-old added, “Pop Pop is out there again. Isn't that funny? I came here thinking I am Mr. Richie. Now I'm Papa Richie on American Idol."

Sofia shared the news of baby Henry’s arrival alongside a glimpse of her and husband Elliot Grainge’s newborn with his big sister on March 25. The 27-year-old posted an up-close photo of her newborn son lying in the lap of their daughter Eloise, 23 months.

"03/18/26," Sofia, whose mom is fashion designer Diane Alexander, captioned the sweet shot. "Loves of my life."

As for Lionel—also grandfather to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden’s two kids, 18-year-old Harlow and 16-year-old Sparrow—a busy schedule is no match for quality time with his grandkids. In fact, having little ones around again have been nothing short of a joy for the “Easy” singer.

“I have a problem,” he admitted to E! News in October 2024, five months after Eloise was born. “I could just stick her in my pocket and take her around town. Amazing.”

“You know that stage of the baby part where the leg becomes a drumstick and you just can’t keep your mouth off of the little drumstick,” Lionel continued. “I'm so sorry. But you know, it's that thing where you can just blow on the stomach and the little smile comes on the face.”

Though Lionel and the rest the Richie family are keeping busy with baby Henry, Sofia isn’t the only star to expand her family recently. Keep reading for more celebs who added new additions this year…
