Lindsey Vonn's weekend went from bad to worse after crashed out at the Winter Olympics.
Just one day after a devastating accident during the women's downhill competition in Milan resulted in Vonn being airlifted off of the slopes, her beloved dog, Leo, died.
Vonn, 41, revealed the news in an emotional post shared via Instagram on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
"This has been an incredibly hard few days," she wrote. "Probably the hardest of my life.... The day I crashed, so did Leo."
Leo had recently been diagnosed with lung cancer after surviving lymphoma a year-and-a-half ago.
"I had lost so much that meant something to me in such a short amount of time. I can’t believe it. My boy has been with me since my second ACL injury, when I needed him most," she continued. "He held me on the sofa as I watched the Sochi Olympics. He lifted me up when I was down. He layed by me, and cuddle me, always making me feel safe and loved. We have been through so much together in 13 years."
In the emotional post, Vonn revealed that said goodbye to her beloved pet while lying in a hospital bed. This is the second of Olypmic skiers dogs to die since last spring. Her spaniel, Lucy, passed away right after the World Cup Finals.
