Liberty vs. Fever prediction, odds: WNBA picks, best bet for Tuesday

The red-hot Liberty bring a four-game winning streak to Indiana Tuesday night, aiming for revenge against Caitlin Clark and the Fever.

Just about a month ago, Breanna Stewart and New York were embarrassed by Indiana, losing in blowout fashion, 108-88 on July 18. 

That defeat ignited something in the Liberty’s locker room. 

Fast-forward, and they have won eight of their last nine games, including a 40-point drubbing of a shorthanded Aces team on Sunday.

The Fever’s high-powered offense has oddsmakers installing them as 2.5-point favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook. 

Liberty vs. Fever prediction, best bet

With momentum on their side, the Liberty can correct their mistakes from the July matchup, starting with slowing down one of the hottest scorers in the WNBA, Kelsey Mitchell. 

Clark is certainly the offensive focal point, averaging 21.6 points and 8.6 assists, but Mitchell’s shot creation puts fear into opposing defenses. 

Mitchell ranks second in league scoring behind A’ja Wilson, with an average of 24.2 points per game. She is also on a historic streak of 16 consecutive games with at least 20 points, setting a WNBA single-season record.

The Fever have won six of their last eight games behind this productive backcourt.

Two keys for the Liberty will be to slow the tempo and force the game into a more half-court style. 

New York’s frontcourt duo of Stewart and Jonquel Jones accomplished this in the Liberty’s 83-75 win over the Fever earlier this season, combining for 20 rebounds. Stewart also lived at the charity stripe, nailing 18-of-21 free throws in that win. 

In fact, New York also led by as many as 13 in that July meeting before the Fever took over, outscoring the Liberty 30-12 in the third quarter. 

After logging only 21 minutes in Sunday’s runaway win, Sabrina Ionescu should be well rested.

Ionescu can capitalize on a trend of recent strong road performances, averaging 22.5 points and 5.8 assists in the Liberty’s last four games away from the Barclays Center. 

Considering this line opened at 4.5 and has dwindled to 2.5 midday, the betting public is clearly favoring a potential Liberty upset. 

This can also trap Fever bettors into capitalizing on a shortened line.

Still, this version of the Liberty looks like the team that reeled off consecutive wins en route to a Commissioner’s Cup triumph in June. 

Meanwhile, for the Fever, recent losses to the Lynx and Aces revealed some leaks under the hood against superior competition, and off-court headlines involving Sophie Cunningham don’t help either. 

Expect New York to get its revenge and take care of a Fever team that’s shown it’s beatable of late.
