Fans on social media are urging Cristiano Ronaldo to end his 'obsession' with Lionel Messi. Many believe the Portuguese superstar should move on from the debate following his recent comments in an interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo hit out at Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney in his previous interview with Morgan, claiming that the Englishman was jealous and criticising him because his career is over. He was not happy with the comments from his former teammate and said:

"I don't know why he criticises me so badly… probably because he finished his career and I'm still playing at a high level. I'm not going to say that I'm better looking than him. Which is true."

Rooney was quick to reply to Ronaldo's comments and told Rio Ferdinand on his YouTube channel that he has nothing against the Al-Nassr captain. However, he admitted that he prefers Messo over the Portuguese star and said:

"People think I hate him. I love him! I think he's an absolute genius; what he's doing is incredible. I don't think people realise how close he and I were. Just because I've said Messi is better than Ronaldo, people think I don't like Cristiano." "To be honest, over the last couple of years, I'm thinking, 'Do you know what?', he's probably gonna be the one when you look back, Cristiano, because he keeps going. I absolutely love Messi, I love watching him play, and that was the only reason because I think Messi had a little bit more in terms of how he played, and taking players on."

Rooney picking Messi over Ronaldo did not go down well with the Portuguese superstar, who disagrees with the opinion and said:

"Messi better than me? I don't agree with that opinion. I don't want to be humble."

Many fans were surprised that Cristiano Ronaldo continues to talk about his rivalry with Lionel Messi and posted:

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are in the twilight of their careers, with both admitting their retirements are near. However, they have extended their deals at the respective clubs, keeping the rivalry alive for a few more years.

Ronaldo penned a 2-year deal at Al-Nassr in the summer, keeping him at the club until 2027. He has set himself a target of 1000 career goals and is currently 48 goals away from achieving it.

Messi has also signed a new deal at Inter Miami, extending his stay until 2028. The 38-year-old has announced he will not play another competitive game for Argentina, hinting that his national team retirement is near.
