Leslie Frazier has one of the best Super Bowl 60 storylines: 'Full circle'

1 hour ago 2

Super Bowl 60 is a “full circle” moment for Leslie Frazier.

It’s been 40 years since his Chicago Bears won Super Bowl 20 against the New England Patriots. Frazier was a defensive back on the iconic ‘85 Bears.

In fact, his six interceptions led the team that year, but he suffered a career-ending knee injury in the second quarter of the Super Bowl.

Frazier now eyes his third Super Bowl ring as assistant head coach for the Seattle Seahawks. He previously earned one as an assistant coach on Tony Dungy’s Indianapolis Colts staff that won Super Bowl 41.

Another chapter in Frazier’s NFL storybook is his time as a head coach in Minnesota. Frazier led the Vikings 3½ seasons from 2010 to 2013. In 2012, the Vikings went 10-6 and reached the playoffs virtually solely on the back of NFL great Adrian Peterson, who won MVP. Frazier finished fourth in voting for the AP Coach of the Year award.

Now on the precipice of another ring, Frazier is head coach Mike Macdonald’s secondhand man in Seattle, helping shape one of the best defenses in NFL history.

Frazier was asked Monday, Super Bowl opening night, by Bears Now host Harrison Graham if he’s thought back on his career this week, specifically his time in Chicago.

“Former teammates texted me about the 40th anniversary and it was New England that we played,” Frazier said. “And it hadn’t really dawned on me as we were getting ready to play the championship game against the Rams, but then afterwards it hit me. It’s full circle in a lot of ways. Here we are playing New England 40 years later. It’s just a special moment to be in this position to be able to compete for another world championship. It’s very humbling.”
