Leighton Meester, Adam Brody Share Whether Kids Will Follow in Their Footsteps
Leighton Meester might have heard that Adam Brody was trouble, but ultimately she couldn’t resist.
Over 10 years after The Gossip Girl star and The O.C. alum tied the knot in 2014 following a whirlwind romance, she admitted that they could’ve gotten married even sooner, if not for her own reservations.
“A lot of the time there’s false starts,” Leighton explained to her Gossip Girl costar Penn Badgley on his Podcrushed podcast Feb. 18. “Like, ‘Oh I thought he liked my roommate.’ And it turns out that was my husband the whole time. But I think I just had to see about a couple of other people first. Now, I go like, ‘Why did I do that?’ That was the wrong move, obviously. But was it?”
Indeed, while Leighton agreed with Penn that timing is everything, she still felt she could’ve saved herself a lot of it if she had just gone with her gut.
“He is the right person,” she continued. “I would argue he’s the right person for a lot of people. He’s just a really good person.”
For Adam’s part, he’d previously shared that he was sold on Leighton far before sparks flew.
"I was very attracted to her from the jump,” Adam recalled of the couple’s 2011 meet-cute on Anna Faris’ Unqualified podcast in 2021. “She's a heavenly creature.”
And while it took two more years for Adam and Leighton—who share two kids—to come together, they didn’t waste time creating their happily ever after.
“My wife and I actually got married very fast after we started dating,” Adam explained on The Jess Cagle Show in 2023. “That's how sort of easy a decision it was for me and us.”
As he put of starting a family, "It always seemed like a route I would go eventually, and I was excited...when it came together, when I met the right person.”

It’s not something they take for granted, either. Leighton has emphasized that she and Adam have maintained their relationship by recognizing “how lucky we are with one another.”
“We give each other a lot of respect and time and attention and focus,” she told E! News in 2023. “Like, really put our time and energy into a relationship.”
