Leak from rival team gives Warriors hope for signing 3x All-Star free agent target

The Golden State Warriors are still waiting. They need to figure out Jonathan Kuminga’s contract for next season, and it is holding up their other free agency signings.

One signing that many are expecting is the Warriors to land Al Horford. Horford has long been a Warriors trade and free agency target. He is the perfect stretch five to accompany Draymond Green in the frontcourt, and his passing, defense, and professionalism have been coveted by the Warriors for some time. Now he is finally available on the free agent market, and the Warriors don’t want to miss their shot.

However, with each passing day that Horford isn’t signed, some are getting worried that the deal might not happen.

There is always the possibility that Horford returns to the Celtics, joins a different team, or even decides to retire.

That’s why, when Brad Stevens let slip the Celtics’ plans to not re-sign Horford, it was one more indication that the Horford–Warriors rumors may come true.

"It's hard to see Jrue go. It's hard to see Kristaps go, Luke, Al,” said Brad Stevens during an interview at NBA Summer League.

Stevens confirming Horford won’t be coming back is definitely great news for the Warriors. It just allows for one less team to swoop Horford from over the Warriors' nose.

Still, while the Horford news is encouraging, nobody in Golden State will be happy until Horford has officially signed the dotted line.
