Bucks reportedly interested in former rival big man Al Horford

The Milwaukee Bucks have been active this offseason, and they may be looking to add another veteran center to their roster.

Al Horford is expected to part ways with the Boston Celtics this summer, leaving the door open for the 39-year-old center to join his fifth team in his lengthy career.

While the Golden State Warriors are reportedly the favorites to land Horford, the Bucks also hold interest in the former Celtic, according to NBA writer Marc J. Spears

“Golden State expected him to sign last week — he didn’t,” Spears said. “Lakers, Milwaukee, Atlanta, I believe, are also interested.”

Though the Warriors remain in the mix for Horford’s services, the fact that he has yet to sign suggests he may still be exploring his options.

The Bucks recently signed Myles Turner to a four-year, $108.9 million deal this summer, and Horford could serve as a strong backup option behind him.

While the aging five-time All-Star likely won’t command the role he once had, he could provide the Bucks with valuable floor spacing and a spark off the bench.

Amid Milwaukee’s retooling effort to surround two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo with more depth, the Bucks have gotten noticeably younger. A veteran presence like Horford’s would be a great addition to the locker room. He has remained productive in the latter stages of his career and helped the Celtics win an NBA championship in 2024.

Horford averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 three-pointers across 27.7 minutes per game in 60 regular-season appearances (42 starts) with Boston in 2024-25. He also shot 36.3 percent from three-point range.
