Future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander is hoping to make one final start in a Detroit Tigers uniform to finish his career.
Following his one-year stint with the San Francisco Giants in 2025, Verlander signed a one-year deal with the Tigers, the organization that drafted him back in 2004 and with whom he's spent 14 of his 21 years in the Majors.
Unfortunately, Verlander made just one start this season before landing on the injured list, dealing with left hip inflammation and a left hamstring strain.
Now 43, the right-hander announced that this season would be his last in professional baseball.
One of the more accomplished pitchers in baseball history is hanging up his spikes, but not before attempting one final comeback.
"He threw off the mound last weekend, and things went well enough that manager A.J. Hinch told reporters that the team is hoping to get Verlander a start during Detroit's last series against Pittsburgh at Comerica Park, when his career will be celebrated in advance of his looming retirement," ESPN's Bradford Doolittle wrote.
"Verlander hasn't made a start for the Tigers at Comerica Park in over nine years. Fingers crossed."

What a moment it would be for Verlander to finish his career on the mound at Comerica Park.
The 10-time All-Star, three-time Cy Young Award winner, and 2011 AL MVP is clearly determined to make it happen.
Detroit is practically out of the postseason race, but Tigers fans would have a great moment to celebrate if Verlander can make one final start.
