Chelsea fans were unhappy with Enzo Fernandez for his performance during their Premier League match against Aston Villa. The midfielder didn’t have the best of nights as the Blues gave away a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Despite Villa’s strong form, Enzo Maresca's side were the better side from the outset, with Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez coming close to scoring for the hosts in the opening exchanges. After much probing, Enzo Maresca’s side finally broke the deadlock in the 37th minute when Joao Pedro got the final touch from Reece James’ corner. Villa’s failure to register a shot on target in the opening 45 minutes meant Chelsea took a slender lead into the break.
It turned out to be a game of two halves as Aston Villa took possession from the Blues after the restart. Barely after the hour mark, Ollie Watkins restored parity for the visitors, with the ball bouncing off the goalkeeper and back onto him before going in. Villa continued to pose more threat, and six minutes from time, Watkins turned the game around, guiding a powerful header from a corner.
Fernandez, who played the full 90 minutes, lost possession eight times, made five recoveries, and received a match rating of 7.4, according to Sofascore. However, fans were critical of his overall display and took to X to criticize him, with one writing:
