Lane Kiffin's unwavering stalwartness turns into another hot take on college football commissioner position

Lane Kiffin has been a Nick Saban fan ever since their shared time in Tuscaloosa. This is why he needed no second thoughts when casting his vote for the hypothetical position of Commissioner of the NCAA if the position is ever created.

"Some great stuff here. I vote Coach Saban," Kiffin tweeted. "NCAA athletic departments, conferences, etc., have commissioners, but the NCAA does not. Thoughts on the NCAA commissioner? Who would be the best choice for the 1st NCAA commissioner?"

The options had Nick Saban, Kiffin's choice, with SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, Mack Brown, and Oliver Luck as choices.

The comments from the fans spanned out a spectrum of responses, some were completely on board with Kiffin's vote, uniting to elect Saban for the non-existent position.

"Saban is simply the only choice. Love the other guys, but it’s not even a contest," a fan tweeted.

"Saban is the only one with enough knowledge and integrity for the job, quite frankly. Saban for NCAA Commissioner 2025," another one wrote.

While several will be for Saban for the position if it comes to be, Saban's thoughts on it matter too.

To the fans, and Kiffin's delight, Saban has stated that he would be open to positions, not necessarily of power, to advocate for "common sense" in the college football landscape.

"I'm not really looking for a job, but I do know I'd like to impact college football the best way I can, whether it's being a spokesperson or anything else," Saban said in February, per ESPN.

"Listen, I'm for the players. It's not that I'm not for the players. I want to see the players have a great quality of life and be able to create value for themselves. But we've gone to nobody talking about education, nobody talking about creating value for their future, to talking only about how much money can I make while I'm in college."

It is still unknown whether the NCAA Commissioner position would be created or whether Saban would be it. But there's at least interest from the coaching G.O.A.T.
