Lamar Jackson wearing a Miami Dolphins uniform sounds like a fantasy scenario. His unresolved contract situation with the Baltimore Ravens ensures the possibility cannot be completely dismissed. Jackson is under contract through 2027, but none of his $52 million salary for that season is guaranteed. His deal also prevents Baltimore from using the franchise or transition tag after the contract expires.
The two-time NFL MVP possesses a no-trade clause as well, giving him significant control over any potential departure. Baltimore attempted to negotiate an extension with Jackson during the offseason but could not reach an agreement. The Ravens instead restructured his existing contract, creating a projected $84.3 million cap hit for 2027.
That enormous number makes another extension the obvious solution. It also creates the potential for significant tension if negotiations remain unresolved.

Dolphins offer fascinating Lamar Jackson possibility
ESPN’s Dan Graziano presented Jackson landing with Miami as a long-shot outcome for the Dolphins’ quarterback search. Jackson grew up in South Florida and starred at Boynton Beach Community High School before attending Louisville. Returning home to play for the Dolphins would create one of the NFL’s biggest stories.
Miami could be searching for a quarterback after the 2026 season. Malik Willis entered the year as the Dolphins’ starter, but ESPN predicted Miami could finish near the bottom of the league and use an early 2027 draft pick on a quarterback. Jackson would offer a far more dramatic alternative.
Baltimore’s most likely outcome remains keeping its franchise player. Jackson reportedly has embraced new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle’s system after the Ravens fired longtime head coach John Harbaugh and hired Jessie Minter. A healthy bounce-back season could return Baltimore to the playoffs and lead to a record-setting extension that makes Jackson the league’s highest-paid quarterback.
The trade scenario becomes relevant only if the season disappoints and negotiations turn contentious. Even then, Jackson would control the process. His no-trade clause would allow him to determine which destinations are acceptable. Baltimore also would need to decide that trading a two-time MVP is preferable to allowing him to enter the final season of his contract.
Miami’s appeal would be obvious. The Dolphins could offer Jackson a homecoming, a warm-weather market and the opportunity to become the centerpiece of the franchise. Acquiring him would require an enormous financial commitment and a massive collection of draft capital. It also instantly would transform Miami’s outlook.
The Ravens have every reason to prevent that possibility from becoming real. Until Jackson signs another extension, however, speculation about his future will continue.
