Lakers writer sends cruel 12-word message to LeBron James after injury update

The Los Angeles Lakers received a positive LeBron James injury update on Thursday.

According to the Athletic’s Dan Woike, James continues to head in the right direction as he nurses his sciatica injury.

“Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James has progressed to contact basketball activity and will be reevaluated by team physicians in approximately 1-2 weeks,” Woike reported on X/Twitter. “Any further updates will be provided at that time.”

However, based on Hoops Habit’s Cal Durrett’s cruel 12-word message to the 21-time All-Star following the injury update, James’ return may not be great news for the Lakers after all.

“LeBron James is about to return and ruin everything for the Lakers,” Durrett wrote.

“The Los Angeles Lakers are rolling right now despite being without star LeBron James. Luka Doncic and Austin Reeves have more than held down the fort in his absence, with the Lakers enjoying a 6-3 start.”

“However, LeBron is expected back by the end of the month and could mess up what the Lakers have going.”

Although James has been a No. 1 scoring option for most of his NBA career, Darrett made an intriguing point regarding the four-time NBA champion’s fit with the surging 7-2 Lakers.

Doncic and Reaves are in a solid rhythm in early November and likely wouldn’t benefit from James attempting to impose his will from the get-go.

Falling in line and embracing life as a No. 3 scoring option would not only help James avoid negatively impacting the Lakers’ chemistry but also avoid cementing himself as a midseason trade candidate (assuming he wants to finish the season with Los Angeles).

It’ll be interesting to see what approach James takes upon his return to the hardwood.
