At the end of the day, the Los Angeles Lakers can’t move forward without making a significant roster move and expect Luka Doncic to be thrilled with the franchise’s trajectory/direction.
Whether it’s sighting their sights on a game-changing two-way perimeter stud or a near-perfect DeAndre Ayton low-post replacement, the Lakers must take initiative this summer by bolstering their roster by any means necessary.
According to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Lakers are working on making a trade(s) to help them comfort Doncic going forward.
“The Lakers are actively exploring trade scenarios utilizing their cap space to improve the roster,” Charania stated per an X/Twitter post from NBA reporter Evan Sidery. “LA will be aggressive this summer to retool around Luka Doncic.”
Obviously, the Lakers are in the beginning stages of the trade process.
Still, it’s good to know the 17-time NBA champions are making a legitimate effort to fulfill the promise they made to Doncic when he first arrived in Los Angeles (ESPN’s Dave McMenamin recently reported that the Lakers informed the former Dallas Mavericks superstar that they would make a major splash during the 2026 offseason).
It’ll be interesting to see who the Lakers wind up acquiring this summer and which assets they'll be forced to part with to help finalize a beneficial deal or two.
