The Los Angeles Lakers are doing decent in the Western Conference right now, sitting in sixth place with a record of 28-18. However, making a trade deadline upgrade is usually one of the top prerogatives for a team in their position.

Sure enough, it seems like they may be making a move. According to Cleveland.com’s Cleveland Cavaliers reporter Chris Fedor, the Lakers and Cavs have laid out a framework for a trade to send De'Andre Hunter to L.A. for Rui Hachimura and Dalton Knecht.

“My sources tell me that the Cavs and the Lakers have discussed a general framework surrounding De'Andre Hunter for Rui Hachimura and Dalton Knecht and then bringing in a third team,” Fedor stated.

So far this season, Hunter is averaging 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists in 26 minutes per game. He’s overall a better offensive player than Hachimura, but has the same defensive profile.

For a Lakers team trying to contend, this seems like a worthwhile trade. However, Hunter is making $39 million more than Hachimura, and with the new CBA, bringing in a third team just makes sense.

Hunter may thrive on this Los Angeles roster, working with offensive masterminds in Luka Doncic and LeBron James. Hopefully, the Lakers realize that and get to work on making their framework for a deal more than just that.
