The long-term Houston Astros lefty starting ace, Framber Valdez, is still a free agent after multiple months into the offseason, with speculation on where he will pitch to start the season in the next couple of months.
Valdez, 32, has spent his entire career with the Astros since entering the league in 2018. He was still effective last season with a 3.66 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, and 187 strikeouts on the season.
However, with the veteran getting up there in age, questions arise about which team is willing to take the chance on the pitcher, who has shown he still has what it takes to be impactful in the league.
MLB insider Steve Phillips discussed where he thinks the likely destination should be for the All-Star pitcher, after many have suggested he join the Mets' bullpen.
"The Orioles seem to be the type of team, and it makes sense because Mike Elias knows him from his time in Houston, and there's a connection there.... I'll be shocked if he's not an Oriole when it's all said and done", Phillips expressed.
If this becomes a reality, it would be the second splash of the offseason for the Orioles, who signed the former New York Mets all-star slugger Pete Alonso in the beginning stages of free agency.
The Orioles would also become a favorite to win the World Series as they look to recover from an underwhelming 2025 season, going 75-87, finishing last in the AL East, and missing the playoffs. Still, with pieces like Alonso and potentially Valdez, the Orioles would have what they need to reach the next level and contend.
