The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly have their sights set on several trade targets, making it a near certainty that the franchise will move on from multiple role players.
Lake Show Life’s Tyler Watts believes that the Lakers should trade a 29-year-old veteran after a dreadful stint in Los Angeles.
“The Los Angeles Lakers should look to trade Gabe Vincent as conversations are just starting to heat up,” Watts wrote Monday. 90% of the NBA is now trade eligible, and there will be plenty of moves before the Feb. 5 deadline.”
“The Lakers need perimeter defense and athleticism to improve their championship odds. Vincent’s expiring contract is the perfect trade chip after his time in LA hasn’t gone to plan.”
“Vincent has the worst value over replacement level (VORP) on the Lakers this season at negative-0.2. He is making $11.5 million, but has struggled to make shots and has never been a lockdown defender. Los Angeles signed him after an impressive playoff run with the Heat, where he helped Miami reach the 2023 NBA Finals. Sadly, the Lakers never got that player.”
Vincent was undoubtedly a swing and a miss for the Lakers. The Santa Barbara product landed a deal with Los Angeles in 2022 following his underrated postseason showing with the Miami Heat.
Vincent averaged 12.7 points and 3.5 assists while shooting 40.2% from the field and 37.8% from three on a Heat team that reached the NBA Finals.
Not only has Vincent failed to replicate that success in a Lakers uniform, but he’s also transformed into an unplayable asset for JJ Redick.
The 6-foot-2 guard’s shot-making has deteriorated since leaving Miami, and he’s a good enough defender to make up for his offensive shortcomings.
Vincent is contributing 2.8 points and 1.0 assists while connecting on 35.7% of his field goals and 30.8% of his triples.
As Watts wisely noted, now is the time to part with the Modesto, California native.
