Lakers package for Jonathan Kuminga getting shut down after Hawks report

Everybody in the basketball world has already said it, but the lack of assets for the Los Angeles Lakers continues to be a major issue for this organization. I don't want to say all of this is Rob Pelinka's fault, but the Lakers should certainly have more assets than they do now.

As a result, it's really tough to get a feel for how this team can improve drastically on both sides of the basketball over the next few seasons.

The best way for this to happen for the Lakers would be to bring in a young player who can make an impact, even if they aren't as good as Los Angeles hopes.

The first person who comes to mind in an event like that is Jonathan Kuminga, as Los Angeles has been linked to him multiple times. However, per the latest report, the Atlanta Hawks aren't too interested in what the Lakers have to offer.

“Jonathan Kuminga. Kuminga’s situation has gotten more complicated by the fact that the Lakers–his top possible destination–were not able to clear out extra cap space for him. The Lakers can do a sign-and-trade with the Hawks for Kuminga, but Atlanta is not that interested in taking back LA’s junk. A sign-and-trade with the Cavs would be preferred by Atlanta,” Sean Deveney wrote.

The Lakers ended up signing Ziaire Williams earlier in the week, a player similar to Kuminga. Kuminga is certainly viewed in a different light than Williams, but in terms of what the Lakers need, they should be viewed as similar players. I'm now curious if that means the Lakers are out of the running for the Hawks' young forward.
