With the drama surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers and the Buss family, some have wondered whether superstar Luka Doncic could be upset by what's going on and eventually want to leave. Doncic and the Lakers face a major decision with his next contract, with the obvious expectation that he'll be paid handsomely.
Doncic is eligible to sign a contract extension next summer, and Los Angeles expects him to do just that.
While some have thought he might not, it was recently reported that the ownership issue is unlikely to have much impact; until he signs that extension, some will be worried.
“Talking to people around the NBA, the feeling is that all this is not likely to have much impact on what happens with Doncic going forward. He will be eligible to sign an extension next summer, and until his signature is on the contract, there will be angst in the organization,” Sean Deveney wrote.
The Lakers, rightfully, should be a bit worried that Doncic doesn't take this extension, and it would be their fault. If Los Angeles doesn't put a good enough team around him to ensure that it has a chance to win a championship every single year, there's a chance Doncic could be frustrated with that at some point.
