Hayden Panettiere was known for her roles in several sports-related films like "Remember the Titans" and "Ice Princess," but following the death of the actress on Sunday, Aug. 16, another sports-adjacent parallel was found with the star -- she used to babysit a now-MLB star.
Panettiere used to babysit Chicago Cubs star Pete Crow-Armstrong, and following the actress' death, an interview resurfaced in which the MLB star shared how she babysat him in the past.
“Hayden Panettiere babysat me. I had the biggest crush on her,” Crow-Armstrong told NBC News Chicago in 2022. "Yeah, I’d say she was probably the coolest one for me.”
Panettiere was the star of "Heroes," where she played Claire Bennet, a cheerleader with superpowers. Crow-Armstrong, who is the son of actors Ashley Crow and Matthew John Armstrong, spent a lot of time on the "Heroes" set growing up. Crow played Sandra Bennet, Panettiere's mom on the show.
“That was fun for me,” he recalled. “I liked being around the older actors, and I liked being babysat by my mom’s costars and whatnot.”
Hayden Panettiere's ex-fiancé Wladimir Klitschko breaks silence on actress' death
Wladimir Klitschko, a former heavyweight boxing world champion, posted a heartbreaking message about the passing of his ex-fiancée.
"Our family is going through a time of profound shock and grief," Klitschko began. "The announcement of Hayden’s tragic death saddens me deeply. She left this world far too soon. Hayden was, although no longer my partner, an important part of my life and the mother of our daughter, Kaya."
The actress died on Sunday, Aug. 16 where she was found in cardiac arrest at a home in South Carolina, and "resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful," according to the Greenville County Coroner's Office, per CBS.
As Panettiere and Klitschko's families navigate the tragedy, "I ask everyone to please respect our family’s feelings and privacy during this incredibly difficult time. For now, this is all I wish to say. Thank you to everyone who is supporting my family and expressing their sincere condolences," he added.
Klitschko and Panettiere began dating in 2009 and got engaged in October 2013. Their daughter, Kaya, was born in December 2014, and four years later, Panettiere gave Klitschko full primary custody of their daughter.
An official cause of death for Panettiere has not yet been determined.
