The Los Angeles Lakers want Luka Doncic to remain with the franchise for years to come.
Since the Lakers' bitter end to the 2024-25 season, the 17-time champions have sold a majority stake of the franchise to Mark Walter, provided Doncic with an underrated pick-and-roll partner in Deandre Ayton, and signed former Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart, after Doncic aggressively recruited him.
According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, Doncic will make a $229 million contract decision at the end of his Jordan Brand Tour.
“Doncic, who has been overseas preparing for EuroBasket 2025, returns to the United States this week for his Jordan Brand tour,” Siegel reported Monday.
“After visiting New York City on Tuesday and Chicago on Thursday, the star guard will conclude his quick tour in Los Angeles on Saturday.”
“It is widely expected that Doncic will meet with Rob Pelinka and the Lakers' brass upon his return to Los Angeles and officially sign a massive contract extension, league sources told ClutchPoints. He is eligible to sign a four-year, $229 million max contract extension with the Lakers.”

“The Lakers have made it their mission to show Luka that this is his organization now, and they have been making moves to appease him since February's trade with the Dallas Mavericks.”
Doncic was just as shocked as the rest of the NBA community when the Mavericks traded him to the Lakers on Feb. 2.
The five-time All-Star reportedly threw his phone in frustration upon learning about the blockbuster deal, proving he wasn’t prepared for the midseason trade news.
Still, Doncic made the best of his unexpected situation with the Lakers, averaging 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game in 28 games with the franchise, shooting 43.8% from the field and 37.9% from deep.
Now that the 26-year-old will get to spend an entire season with Lebron James and has more weapons at his disposal, a first-round exit shouldn’t be in the cards for the Lake Show next season.
