It often makes sense for both sides to move on from one another, as we can say about the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James.
While James, arguably a great in Los Angeles history after helping the team win another championship during the NBA bubble, isn't getting any younger, there's still an argument to be made that he's one of the better players in the NBA, and at the very least, for the right price, could fit in Los Angeles.
The problem was that the Lakers didn't do enough to build a great team around him in recent years, which made everything all the more interesting.
However, it seems like the Lakers and James both understood that it was time to move on.
Reports indicated that the Lakers were interested in at least speaking with James, but according to the latest from Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, James and his agent, Rich Paul, didn't seem to have much interest in speaking with them.
“The Lakers called Paul a week before free agency, when teams could approach their own free agents, to try to arrange a videoconference with James and were told he wasn’t available. Paul didn’t say why at the time, but he told ESPN it was because James had already decided he didn’t want to return to the Lakers and that there was no need for a call,” Shelburne wrote.
I'm not too surprised that James felt this way, as once again, it's better to just move on at times.
Not to say that the Lakers and James are going to be in better positions in the immediate term because they both moved on from each other, but there's a lot of reason to believe that moving on made sense for both sides.
