Lakers get concerning Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade update

1 hour ago 3

While Jonathan Kuminga isn’t a part of the Los Angeles Lakers’ organization just yet, many believe that it’s only a matter of time before the Lakers partner with the Atlanta Hawks to execute a sign-and-trade for the 23-year-old former No. 7 overall pick.

That said, a new report involving Kuminga and the Lakers will require fans to pump the brakes a bit, as The Stein Line’s Jake Fisher isn’t sold the Lakers have it in the bag yet, despite all signs pointing to a deal eventually materializing.

"The Lakers continue to be connected to Jonathan Kuminga, but the longer they don't come to an agreement on a deal, they being the Lakers and Jonathan Kuminga's representation, it does kind of seem like the iron is losing its hotness,” Fischer stated Sunday.

Considering Kuminga is the last order of business for the Lakers after re-signing Austin Reaves, and signing Kevon Looney, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, and Zhaire Williams, it’s concerning that Fischer believes there’s a chance the franchise’s pursuit of the NBA champion forward could be headed in the wrong direction.

Joining the Lakers would provide Kuminga with a 12.2 points-per-game scorer and 33.3% three-point shooter through the first 294 games of his career, with a great opportunity to revitalize his erratic career and reshape his future.

For now, though, it’s merely a fantasy.
