Lakers' candidates for final roster spot revealed following buyout market

In comparison to other Western Conference contenders, the Los Angeles Lakers didn't do much to address their roster at the trade deadline.

The only move they made was trading Gabe Vincent to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for sharpshooter Luke Kennard, a player head coach JJ Redick seems excited to work with.

However, there's still a chance for Los Angeles to add to their roster via the buyout market.

Although rumors suggested a reunion between the Lakers and point guard Lonzo Ball, Los Angeles is reportedly scouting other options.

Two of those options are former Nets' players Haywood Highsmith and Cam Thomas. According to The New York Times, both Highsmith and Thomas are players of interest.

Highsmith did not debut for Brooklyn this season, rehabbing from knee surgery. That said, he was progressing well, targeting a Feb. 11 return before Brooklyn ultimately waived him.

As for Thomas, he began the season as a starter, but lost favor and was relegated to the bench after a hamstring injury.

Both players have their pros and cons, giving Los Angeles a difficult choice for their final roster spot.

Highsmith would offer solid defense (0.7 steals per game) and three-point shooting (career 37.4%). However, his knee injury could deter possible suitors.

Thomas would provide the Lakers with scoring off the bench, a category they currently rank last in. That said, he wouldn't do much to improve their defense (24th in defensive rating).

Either way, all eyes will be on Los Angeles' front office as they fill their final roster spot with 32 games remaining.
