Before the Los Angeles Lakers’ Sunday afternoon contest vs. the New York Knicks, the franchise made a noteworthy roster move.
The 17-time NBA champions sent 21-year-old guard Bronny James to the G-League in an attempt to give him valuable reps with the South Bay Lakers. On Monday, James received new G-League news following his recent demotion.
“The Los Angeles Lakers have recalled guard Bronny James Jr. and forward Adou Thiero from the South Bay Lakers,” Sports Illustrated's Ryan reported on X/Twitter.
While it’s unfortunate to admit, it’ll only be a matter of time before James returns to the minor leagues. The USC product’s second NBA campaign has been anything but smooth, as he’s found himself splitting time between the NBA and G-League despite having lofty NBA expectations entering the year.
James, a defensive-minded 6-foot-2 guard who’s still figuring things out offensively, is averaging 2.1 points and 1.2 assists per game with the Lakers this season, shooting 39.7% from the field and 41.4% from three-point land (he’s only connected on 12 triples).
James hasn’t been great in the G-League, either, as he’s contributing 9.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while shooting 35.6% from the field and 21.2% from beyond the arc.
Simply put, the former second-round pick still has a ways to go before he cements himself as a legitimate NBA player.
