The Los Angeles Lakers have been questioned for some of the moves they've made this offseason, including re-signing Austin Reaves to a major extension.
Reaves is a very decent player and should be a nice piece to what Los Angeles is looking to do throughout the next few seasons, at the very least. However, there's no doubt that while Rob Pelinka has attempted to improve his roster, more has to be done. Reaves even pretty much admitted as much, recently saying he loves basketball and wants a chance to compete and win.
“That was the main goal at the start of everything was to continue my career with the Lakers and whatever that looked like. As far as the contract for basketball, that is all great, but at the end of the day, I love basketball and I want to compete and I want to win,” Reaves said to Keith Jougnantos.
Pelinka has heard from a couple of his players this offseason that more has to be done.
While Reaves might not be saying that directly to him, this is another indication that guys, especially the big-time players in Los Angeles, understand that, right now, this is not a team with a great chance to win.
Reaves and Luka Doncic can probably outduel anybody, especially Doncic, who's arguably the best player in basketball, but basketball is a team sport at the end of the day, and we've seen that a lot over the past few seasons.
